Writing Rockets
Writing Rockets
This is our foundational elementary writing program, which walks teachers through a surefire approach to teaching the writing of a basic paragraph, as well as the expanded paragraph, including supporting elaborations and details. We use specific strategies such as unique graphic organizers to help improve overall structure and cohesion.
The skills taught at this level are foundational for all the writing that students will do as they move through school. Teachers who go through this training often express how much easier it is to teach writing once they have clarity about exactly what foundational skills should be taught, how, and when.

Author’s Portfolio
Author’s Portfolio
Our Author’s Portfolio training covers everything middle school teachers need in order to teach a rigorous writing curriculum that prepares students for high school level writing.
The underlying foundational skill taught in the middle school writing program is essay writing. Teachers attending this training learn everything they need to teach essay writing well, including:
- How to teach the different essay structures and their component skills
- How to use graphic organizers to model the organizational structure of each type of writing
- How to use mentor texts (included in the program) to show students the possibilities for their own writing
- How to teach students to use signal words (transitions) effectively in their essays
Many middle school programs waste a lot of time repeating instruction taught in the elementary grades. As a result, students’ skills tend to stall out. Our middle school writing program cuts out the unnecessary repetition and focuses on teaching new skills that prepare your students for success in high school.
While we believe in raising the bar for middle school writing, we also believe in empowering teachers with all the practical guidance and support they need to implement the program confidently and successfully. With our systematic approach, we’ve taken all the guesswork out of teaching writing!

The Child Author Program
Child Author Program
The Child Author Program, an extension of the Writing Rockets training, guides teachers through a no-fail approach to child authoring as a class, in groups, or as independent work.
The goal of this program is for students to write their own stories—whether personal narrative, nonfiction, or even fiction—and have them published in a professionally printed book, complete with their own bio paragraph and personal author’s photo in the back. In the training for the Child Author Program, we walk you through the entire process step-by-step, explaining how to teach each skill necessary for students to write their books.
This program allows student to experience the full writing process in an authentic manner. Children appreciate the opportunity to write with a real purpose and produce something of which they’re very proud. It’s a great payoff for having learned how to write well.
Teachers who have participated in this program also feel a real sense of pride in helping their students create such beautiful and meaningful work.

Sentence Labs
Sentence Labs
The Sentence Labs workshop focuses on engaging strategies to teach sentence building and applied grammar skills.
The program minimizes the focus on unhelpful grammar jargon while maximizing the focus on real-time sentence building. Sentence Labs utilizes anchor charts and picture prompts to encourage hands-on, “mix and match” exercises to help build powerful, well-structured, telling sentences.
This program is truly transformational, as students learn to love and understand the science of a sentence by playing and experimenting with the words while at the same time adhering to important grammar rules.
