Building Strong Foundations for Young Writers!
Every great writer starts with mastering the basics. Sentence Labs focuses on helping young learners confidently build that first building block: the sentence.
With two levels designed for different age groups, our engaging workbooks guide students step-by-step in developing essential writing skills.
Sentence Labs: Book 1 for Grades K-1
Building Core Writing Skills for Young Learners

- Use conjunctions to create sentences with multiple subjects or actions
- Write core sentences and gradually add "when" and "where" details along with simple adjectives
What Does Book 1 Cover?
In Book 1, students are introduced to fundamental writing concepts that provide the foundation for all future writing success.
Key focus areas include:
Common and Proper Nouns:
Students learn the difference between everyday objects (common nouns) like "dog" or "city" and specific names (proper nouns) like "Max" or "New York."
Action Verbs:
Action verbs such as "run," "jump," and "play" are taught, encouraging students to write a predicate that brings energy and movement to their sentences.
Conjunctions:
The simple conjunction "and" is introduced to help students combine subjects and actions, fostering the creation of longer, more complex sentences.
Adding Verbs:
Students experiment with adverbs to modify verbs and describe actions in more detail, such as “The boy ran quickly to the park.”
Short, Core Sentences:
Students practice writing core sentences that clearly express a subject and action. For example, "The dog runs."
Adding "When" and "Where" Details:
Students learn how to add additional details to their sentences, such as "The dog runs in the park every morning."
Simple Adjectives:
Descriptive words like "blue," "big," or "tall" are incorporated to enhance sentence clarity and creativity.
Sentence Labs: Book 2 for Grades 1-2

What Does Book 2 Cover?
Book 2 of Sentence Labs builds upon the foundation established in Book 1, introducing more advanced language concepts that help students develop stronger, more complex sentences. As they progress through this workbook, young learners in Grades 1-2 get to explore the following areas:
Nouns and Possessive Nouns:
Students reinforce their understanding of nouns, including common and proper nouns, while learning how to use possessive nouns to show ownership (e.g., “the cat's toy”).
Action Verbs with Objects:
Building on basic verb knowledge, students learn how to construct sentences with action verbs followed by objects, such as “The dog chased the ball,” further enhancing sentence complexity.
Basic Pronouns:
Pronouns like "he," "she," and "they" are introduced to help students avoid repetition and add variety to their sentences.
Using Multiple Adjectives:
Students expand their descriptive abilities by combining multiple adjectives in a sentence (e.g., "The large, brown dog"), giving more detailed descriptions of nouns.
Conjunctions for Complex Sentences:
They practice using a wider variety of conjunctions (e.g., “but,” “because,” “so”) to join ideas and create more detailed and meaningful sentences.
Storyboard Writing:
Using storyboards, students learn how to map out and organize their ideas visually, then transform them into well-structured sentences and short stories. This activity helps students develop storytelling and sequencing skills.
Sentence Variety and Length:
As young writers progress, they continue to practice varying sentence length and structure, moving from simple to more complex sentences to create a natural flow in their writing.
Level 2 encourages creativity while reinforcing the importance of well-structured sentences. With interactive lessons and fun challenges, students continue to build their writing skills in a way that feels engaging and rewarding.
